Even though they are small, they have lots of energy and need regular exercise.

History

The Dachshund, also known as the "wiener dog" or "sausage dog," is a small breed originating in Germany in the 16th century.

Originally bred to hunt badgers, Dachshunds were prized for their long, slender bodies and short legs, which allowed them to dig into burrows and chase after their prey easily.

Over the years, the breed has evolved into two size varieties - standard and miniature - and three coat types: smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired.

Personality

Dachshunds are known for their lively and outgoing personalities. They are typically friendly, curious, and spunky.

How to potty train a Dachshund?

To potty train, a Dachshund, remember they’re not the easiest breed to train. Patience, consistency, and keeping a routine are always key throughout. It’s also best to never scold them for any accidents they may have and to praise and reward them when they do go. As an owner, you must check for signs they may need to use the bathroom. Those include whining, whimpering, and walking around in circles. It’s also good to take them to the same location for walks every two hours. Puppy pads are also a great idea.

How long do Dachshunds live?

On average, a Dachshund dog lives anywhere between 12 to 15 years. Even with health issues, they can have a long lifespan, but Miniature Dachshunds can live up to sixteen years.
