How to control Shar-Pei odor?

In general, a Shar Pei has a natural odor, but it doesn’t have a bad odor. Because of their wrinkled folds, they are prone to yeast and bacterial infections (including the ears) which can produce a smell. They can have an allergy to something as well. To care for and control this issue, you need to start by visiting your veterinarian, so they can rule out any of the aforementioned. They need their ears cleaned at least twice a week to help rid your dog of any excess ear wax which can cause an odor. Bathing your dog at least once a month helps with keeping them clean, and eliminating odors. Another helpful hint is by adding omega 3 fatty acids to their diet. Deworming is another avenue where an odor may arise due to mites festering and colonizing on their skin.
